§ 10.44.010. Authority to install traffic-control devices.

    The chief of police shall place and maintain traffic-control devices when and as required under the resolutions and ordinances adopted by the city council to make effective its provisions, and may place and maintain such additional temporary traffic-control devices as traffic conditions may require to regulate traffic under the traffic-control devices signs, signals and markings upon the streets, alleys and bridges in the city which are installed as of the effective date of the ordinance codified in this chapter and are declared to be official and legally binding upon all motorists and pedestrians. Whenever traffic conditions require a change in existing traffic-control devices, signs, signals and markings, the city council by resolution may direct their installation, and the same shall be effective and legally binding under this chapter upon all persons using the streets from and after the time they are installed at the places designated.

    B.

    The chief of police shall keep a record of all traffic-control devices maintained by his department.

    C.

    All traffic-control devices shall comply with standards established by the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways.
