  • The police department shall consist of all law enforcement officers performing duties authorized by law or ordinance. The department shall be headed by a police chief appointed by the mayor which appointment shall be subject to the approval of the city council, and the number of members in the police department shall be set by resolution of the city council upon the recommendation of the chief of police. Members shall be designated by rank as follows: the chief, assistant chief, captain, sergeant, patrolman. There shall be one chief and as many assistant chiefs, captains, sergeants and patrolmen as designated by resolution of the city council upon the recommendation of the chief of police.
